Experiential Learning

Nurturing curiosity in our community

At KIS, teachers design learning experiences that are based in real world settings. When learning in the classroom is drawn from current events or local environments, the experience can bring greater meaning to students, providing them with an opportunity to see the relevance of the knowledge and skills that they are inquiring into and developing.

In addition to bringing the real world into our classrooms, learners also benefit from leaving the classroom to engage in a variety of settings, exploring real life situations and having learning material presented through the multiple lenses of local and global contexts. Field trips in and around Bangkok integrate academic and social development by providing students with an opportunity to investigate and apply learning through authentic experiences.

Overnight learning experiences

Extended, overnight learning activities provide students in Grade 3 and up (ages 8+) an opportunity to develop independence, strengthen friends and engage in learning in locations such as Pranburi, Kanchanaburi, Chiang Mai, Khao Yai, and other locations beyond Thailand. These trips bring the academic curriculum to life and focus on community engagement, the arts, environmental issues and Thai culture.

All KIS trips involve extensive preparation and risk-assessment to ensure the students' safety and well-being. Prior to overnight trips, guardians are invited to information meetings so families feel well-informed and prepared for these important learning experiences.

Duke of Edinburgh's International Award

Experiences outside the classroom help you become committed, responsible, and fulfilled global citizens.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is the world’s leading youth achievement award and is available to students aged 14 and up. It equips you for life, regardless of your background, culture, physical ability, skills, or interests. Doing the Award is a personal challenge and not a competition against others.
