G3 to G5 Residential Trips - Taking Action!

Learning outside of the classroom

An important part of the PYP is taking action because knowledge is much more useful when it is put to work! Our Grade 3, 4 and 5 students just left on their residential trips for a few days. Grade 3 went to Chonburi, Grade 4 went to Ayutthaya and Grade 5 went to Khao Yai.

Each trip is related to the current unit of inquiry for each class. For example, Grade 4 has been studying past civilizations, recently making their own in class museum that they showcased for their parents last week. This week, their trip to Ayutthaya will take a historical look at this ancient capital. Comparing past civilization to our current world is a great way to give IB students a broader perspective within the context of “Where We Are in Place and Time.”

Below is a slide from Grade 5’s recent coffee morning for parents. The Grade 5 class has been working hard raising money and collecting supplies for the children of Baan Huay Kasian School in Khao Yai. They will assist with some of the classes, play with the children and learn more about this group that they are helping. Donations and charitable assistance that has direct contact with those in need is a lot more meaningful than simply giving some money to a charity.

As the students will be away from home for a few days, sometimes it’s most difficult for the parents to be away from their children! The students will not have access to phones so that they are able to focus on their learning during the residential trips. However, KIS will be messaging families with updates and photos about each day’s activities.

This will be a great and unforgettable learning experience for the kids. We are looking forward to  all of their reflections when they get back!
