KIS Student engaging in service activities

Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award

KIS International School is proud to deliver the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, which is the world’s leading youth achievement award, operating in over 140 countries around the globe.

The Award brings together practical experiences, skills development and community responsibility in order to equip students for life. Doing the Award is a personal challenge and not a competition against others, and requires sustained effort over a period of time. Students participating in the Award will have new adventures and experiences, and will stand out from the crowd when it comes to job and university applications.

The Award is available to students aged 14 and up, and is comprised of three levels, each of which is progressively more challenging, and each of which requires the completion of four sections in order to achieve the Award.

The three levels to the Award:

  • Bronze Award: Students over 14 years - 6 months minimum participation.

  • Silver Award: Students over 15 years - 12 months minimum participation.

  • Gold Award: Students over 16 years - 18 months minimum participation.

The four sections of the Award:

  • Voluntary Service: Students volunteer in their communities, make a positive contribution to society, and demonstrate social responsibility.

  • Physical Recreation: Students improve their fitness, develop healthy lifestyles, and improve their mental and physical well being.

  • Skills: Students develop their talents, broaden their abilities, increase their self‐confidence and improve their employability.

  • Adventurous Journey: Students discover a spirit of adventure and gain a deeper understanding of the environment and the great outdoors.

Why should students participate in the International Award? There are many benefits, including:

  • Having lots of fun
