Athletics

At KIS, we foster an inclusive environment where all students are welcome to join our sports teams, regardless of experience level. Our programs, ranging from Grade 2 to Varsity, emphasize personal growth, social skills, teamwork, and leadership through sports like swimming, football (soccer), volleyball, basketball, and badminton. Throughout the year, our student-athletes compete with other international schools in Bangkok through The Asia International Schools Athletics Association (AISAA) and have the opportunity to travel internationally through the Mekong River International School Association (MRISA) starting in Grades 6-8.

Our coaching team prioritizes learning over winning, viewing themselves as educators who instill values of sportsmanship, ethical conduct, and respect within our community. We continually strive to create opportunities for every student who is dedicated to practicing and improving.

New research shows that participation in sports can increase academic achievement in children and adolescents*. It is with this, and a caring and inclusive community in mind, that KIS practices inclusivity on our sports team.

This means that if you are interested in participating in our team sports at KIS, you are welcome to join. KIS has worked to build programs that safely allow as many children as possible to compete whether they are experienced or at a beginner level. We continually strive to create enough teams to allow all athletes committed to practices to have the opportunity to play. We utilize our facilities to ensure that all teams get the chance to participate in games and, when possible, tournaments at levels that match their abilities.

From (Grade 2 - 3) to Varsity teams, students have the opportunity to develop their growing talents through a variety of sports that foster commitment, structure, and independence. Players focus on self-improvement, developing social skills, cooperation, teamwork, and leadership.

Student-athletes are given the opportunity to participate in our sports programs that include swimming, football (soccer), volleyball, basketball, and badminton.

Throughout the year, our students compete against other international schools in Bangkok. Starting in 6th, 7th and 8th grade our teams can travel internationally as part of the through participation in the Mekong River International School Association (MRISA) to participating schools in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and around Thailand.

Our coaching team understands and strives to instill to all members of our community that learning is more important than winning. They see themselves as teachers of students more than the coach of a sport.

The ideals of sportsmanship, ethical conduct, and a demonstration of respect for the efforts of team members, opponents, coaches, and officials are promoted as program goals.
