Grade 3 Make New FriendsGrade 3 Make New Friends (By Ms. Lana and Ms. Melanie, G3 Teachers) Big hearted Grade 3 have shown they have what it takes to walk the International Baccalaureate (IB) walk by reaching out to refugees and orphans in Thailand. Displaying core IB Learner profile characteristics by being caring, reflective and knowledgeable, Grade 3 students took the initiative to raise funds to help their new friends at the Bangkok Refugee Centre and the Safe Haven Orphanage near the border with Myanmar. Students displayed a developed sense of personal commitment to action and service when they launched their fund raising activities and collection of food, books, clothes and shoes. On Tuesday 29th September, G3 class went to visit the Bangkok Refugee Center. We interviewed the children and asked them questions about how their lives are different now that they have moved to Thailand. At first, we felt nervous and shy about talking to them. We were worried that they might not speak English or that they would not want to talk about leaving their home country. But, after a while, we felt happy and realized that they are the same as us – they are kids with a dream too! We made a decision to help our new friends at the Refugee Center in Bangkok and an orphanage called Safe Haven near the Myanmar border by raising money and collecting food, books, clothes and shoes for them. On Friday 30th October some of our parents helped us with our collections, garage sale, craft sale and treasure hunt. It was a very fun and successful day and we feel proud to help others who need it. Thank you to the KIS community for your support!
