Internet Practices

KIS International School in Bangkok recognises the importance of internet access for students. We guide and teach students to use the internet critically and sensibly.

Network

KIS provides internet access for students through the local KIS network at all computer access locations. After school access to the internet in libraries and computer labs is limited to closing time, therefore, students should have access to a computer and the internet at home.

Email

Primary school students are provided with the classroom address and secondary school students are issued individual addresses. Students use the school email for school communication only eg. to submit homework, contact teachers, etc.

KIS Extranet

The Extranet is used to communicate with parents and students. It contains up-to-date information such as school announcements or events, classroom information, homework assignments and KIS documents (eg. Family Handbooks, Calendars, policies, school menu, newsletter, meeting agendas, minutes, workshop presentations etc). The extranet pages also contain links to the KIS network or the internet. Parents can access the extranet by using the classroom account (primary school parents) or the student's individual account (secondary school parents).

Access to the school extranet, school files and KIS email can be done from any internet connected computer, however, in order to work with the files appropriate the school will inform of the software that needs to be installed.

Laptops and Wireless Network

Students are allowed to bring their laptops to school and can access the wireless network facilities to use the Internet. Laptops can be used during classes with teacher's permission.

Privileges, Rights and Responsibilities

Students found to be in violation of the Internet Code of conduct and the KIS Acceptable Use Policy will have their access to the internet revoked. Students have the right to privacy but if a student is believed to be in violation of the code, KIS reserves the right to gain access to private electronic correspondence or files. Therefore, students are must familiarize themselves and sign the basic rules of network etiquette and the KIS Acceptable Use Policy before using the internet service at KIS.
